The Bug Out Kit (a.k.a Bug Out Bag, 72-Hour Pack, Oh-Shit Kit, etc) is a portable bag containing the major life and comfort essentials for 3 days of come-what-may. Generally, these are personal kits, meaning one per person, and are kept near at hand, such as in the trunk of your car if you work outside the home. The MOST important qualities of the bug out kit are that it is easy to get to and easy to carry, so you can grab it and run. I personally like a medium size backpack with lots of loops and grabbable bits - be sure to fit it correctly after it's all packed! Then leave it in your car trunk or hall closet and don't fuck with it!
Some common items to include are:
- Compact Food Bars
- Water or water purifier
- Small First Aid Kit
- Warm socks, longsleeve shirt, wool hat, gloves, poncho
- Flashlight
- Small Hygiene kit
- Multi-tool
- A little cash in small bills
